Sermon 6/11                                               The Holy Spirit

Jesus said ¨I´m leaving but I'm sending you another like me.¨

Pentecost came to empower us to do God's work. Signs and wonders follow those who believe. Peter denied Christ 3 times but after pentecost he stood and defended Him against the Pharisees and rulers of the day. No flesh can be changed by flesh. We don't wrestle with flesh and blood. We come against the powers and principalities in the heavenlies to decree and proclaim God's Word over the situation. God's Word is higher! It is His truth that has the final say over problems.

  1. He endues us with power.   Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost          is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth

  2. He imparts spiritual wisdom.   John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you

  3. He fills believers with the spirit. Acts 2:1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them

  4. He Pours God's love into us. Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

  5. He enables us to walk in holiness. Galatians 5:16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

  6. He teaches us how to pray. Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

  7. He imparts the gifts of the spirit. 1 Corinth 12:8-10  8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[1] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

  8. He strengthens our inner being. Ephesians 3:16 May He grant you out of the riches of His glory, to be strengthened and spiritually energized with power through His Spirit in your inner self.

  9. He builds us up. Jude 20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit.

  10.  We need His power. Acts 2:1-13 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[1] as the Spirit enabled them.5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: "Aren't all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs-we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!" 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, "What does this mean?" 13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, "They have had too much wine
